Air-Tek was started by Walter Keey and Abrie Wagenaar in 1986.
Doom and gloom in the South African economy for American operated companies. The desired effect was being felt in Port Elizabeth. The perfect time to found our business, a small company, with top level skills and high energy levels. We received fantastic support from many big players in the market who were looking to contain costs, yet maintain quality services. We put our heads down and got stuck in.
By 1996, 10 years later, we were still in business. We had grown to be a respectable operation within our field of air conditioning, refrigeration & ventilation. In addition to the service work we were undertaking, we established our own sheet metal shop and had a number of National and Multinational Customers supporting us on a regular basis. The projects got bigger, we worked harder and grew year by year.
2012 saw us reach the 26-year milestone. We decided that the time was now right to get some succession planning in place. We have welcomed our newest shareholders; Stephan in 2012, Liezel and Richard joined by 2016.
The newcomers are presently the new majority shareholders, with the 1986 team of Walter and Abrie taking a step back.
It has been a great pleasure to watch the “new blood” go ahead questioning, refining, modernising and delivering exceptional service and end-product.
